Lieut. Governor Ralph Northam & Congressman Don Beyer To Host Mark Levine Reception
I'm honored to announce that on Sunday, September 11, from12 Noon to 2 pm, Dr. Ralph Northam, the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and the Democratic candidate for Governor in 2017, will join Congressman Don Beyer to hold a reception in my honor at the home of David Lord, Senior Commonwealth's Attorney and President of the Alexandria Bar Association, at 1005 Russell Road in Alexandria.
Ralph Northam is the only one who can stop Virginia from becoming like Mississippi.
Earlier this year, Republicans who control the General Assembly passed a number of bills harmful to LGBT rights, women's reproductive freedom, and workers' rights. They tried to make it easier to commit gun crimes, to increase the impact of climate change, and to give massive subsidies to large polluting corporations.
All of this legislation was thankfully vetoed by Governor Terry McAuliffe and will be vetoed by Governor Northam when Terry's term ends in 2017 if he's elected. But if we don't get out the vote in 2017 as much as in 2016 -- when Virginia's US Senate seat will be on the ballot as well as the Governor's race and all 100 House of Delegate seats (including mine) -- we could lose every progressive policy we have fought for in Virginia.

Mark's Monthly Meetup
Please join me tomorrow, Saturday August 27th at Del Ray Cafe, 205 E. Howell Ave in Alexandria at 1:30 pm, for Mark's Monthly Meetup, which occurs the last Saturday of every month. No donation required. Just a place to sit and talk and (for most of us) eat. I love to know what's on my mind of constituents and supporters.

They can register online! It's easy to do. But tell them to hurry. The deadline is October 17.
My Legislative Ratings
I'm proud to have a 100% A+ rating from the Sierra Club for 2016. Keeping our air and water clean, limiting carbon emissions, mitigating the effects of climate change, and making Virginia a leader in producing clean energy are among my highest priorities. I'm also thrilled that the Sierra Club has thrown its support behind the Virginia Transparency Caucus I created and our fight to get recorded votes on every bill that comes before committee or subcommittee. The Sierra Club aren't the only ones recognizing the work we were able to do last session. The Virginia League of Conservation Voters has also given me a 100% rating for fighting to conserve our natural resources, which you can read more about here. I've also received a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia for supporting a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions without anti-choice activists dictating what she can do with her body, which you can read about here.
Meanwhile, the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a gun-proliferation group that claims that the NRA doesn't go FAR ENOUGH in making sure criminals, terrorists, and the violently mentally ill have easy access to guns, has rated me dead last in their rankings. I couldn't be prouder.
