Mark's Monthly Meetup - This Sunday

Los Tios in Del Ray
Sunday, December 17 at 2 pm

Please join me at the December Mark's Monthly Meetup from 2-4 pm at Los Tios Mexican restaurant in Del Ray (2615 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria). Come join us to eat, relax, and discuss policy and politics.

And if you miss December, there's always January, February, or March of next year. Every month, I make sure to be available in this informal setting for any constituent who wishes to discuss a problem or just say hello. Help me get to know you better, so I can better determine your priorities in Richmond. I always strive to be as accessible to you as I can possibly be.

Gov. McAuliffe Backs My Rural Broadband Request

Last year, I submitted a budget amendment to increase the funding for Virginia's rural broadband initiative to help rural communities get connected online. This measure is absolutely critical to giving rural Virginians access to 21st-century jobs and opportunities that we take for granted here. Even though this program helps people far from my district, I know that people in Alexandria care about others and want to see more opportunity for everyone in the Commonwealth. It's also important that we Democrats show rural voters that we're the ones who have their best interests at heart.

The House Republicans defeated my amendment last year, but fortunately, Governor McAuliffe has agreed to do this in his upcoming budget proposal. I look forward to working to protect this funding as the budget moves through the General Assembly, and I hope that my colleagues will agree to leave that money in place and help move rural Virginia forward.

Tickets for the Inauguration of Gov. Ralph Northam

For those of you who want to attend Ralph Northam's inauguration as our Governor on Saturday January 13 in Richmond, you can reserve your free tickets HERE. Due to limited seating, tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis to those who request a ticket online no later than December 22nd. Requesting a ticket does not guarantee admittance to the ceremony. For anyonewho might be interested in volunteering at Governor-Elect Northam’s swearing in ceremony, they can sign up online HERE.

And for those who are interested, there will be an inaugural ball at Main Street Station in Richmond at 8pm that night. You can purchase tickets to that HERE.
