2017 Campaign Kickoff!
We had a great turnout. Special thanks to Congressman Don Beyer, Senator Barbara Favola, Delegates Alfonso Lopez and Marcus Simon, Mayor Allison Silberberg, Alexandria City Councilmembers Willie Bailey and Del Pepper, Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney Bryan Porter, former Alexandria School Board Member and Team Levine Education Specialist Kelly Booz, Fairfax County School Board Member Karen Sanders, and my constituents Liz Birnbaum and Florence King for attending and speaking on my behalf.
One Last Day in Richmond: to Defend the Vetoes!
The 2017 regular session may be over, but our work isn't done yet. The Governor has broken the record for most vetoes by any Virginia Governor, a total of 111 over the last four years. The General Assembly will address his 39 vetoes (the most in any year) this Wednesday April 5, along with his 67 amendments to bills we passed. With more than 100 important bills to be considered, I expect Wednesday to be a long last day in Richmond.
It is vitally important that each and every Democrat be there. The Governor has vetoed some very bad bills, including measures that would allow discrimination against the LGBT community; force our localities to use police and school teachers to round up undocumented immigrants; track every Virginia refugee; give your tax dollars to coal companies (but not coal workers!), using what would be the most ineffective tax subsidy on the Virginia books in an effort to increase global warming; make it harder for Virginians to vote; repeal the Affordable Care Act at the state level; censor learning materials in our schools; kick people off public assistance; allow guns in emergency shelters; encourage guns in homes with domestic violence; make it easier for minors to obtain weapons; privatize public education; take state money away from local school boards; fund charter schools that local school boards have rejected as not meeting the most basic of standards; make it easier for employees of religious day-care facilities to abuse children; and reduce wages for the working class.
No wonder the Governor vetoed these bills. I will vote to sustain his veto on each and every bill. And I'll be relieved to see these terrible bills defeated.
Please wish my 33 Democratic House colleagues and me good health from now until Wednesday. If just one of us fails to show up, House Republicans can overrule the Governor's veto by a two-thirds vote of 66 to 33. We have plans to wheel in hospital beds if necessary! More importantly, we need to elect more Democrats to the House of Delegates in November so that our veto-sustaining margin is not so tenuous. And we need to elect a Democratic Governor so that these terrible bills do not become law in 2018.
Please stand with us.
Speaking of electing more Democrats this November, could you please help me raise more funds for the House Democratic Caucus?
Simply put, the more funds we get the more campaigns we can fund and the better chance we have to get a Democratic majority.
Can you chip in $50, $100, or $500? Please donate whatever you can by clicking the big blue button above.

Lots of Events!
With Session over, I've been busy answering your questions about what happened in Richmond and how it affects you. As the only Delegate to represent both Alexandria and Arlington (plus a small portion of Fairfax County!), I've had a lot of ground to cover. But I'm enjoying every minute. It's great to be back home in Northern Virginia.
