Tomorrow!
Join us to rally for sensible gun laws
in Virginia and in Washington DC
Our children will lead the way...
Tomorrow (Saturday, March 24), people all over the country will be marching to demand Congress finally pass meaningful reforms to prevent gun violence. The March for Our Lives, led by students from Parkland, Florida; from Northern Virginia; and from across the nation; will be all along Pennsylvania Avenue at noon tomorrow, with the main stage at 3rd Street Northwest.
I'll be marching to the rally across Memorial Bridge with former Governor Terry McAuliffe and many others at 10:30am. Please join us. Just take blue line Metro to Arlington National Cemetery.
Many Alexandrians are meeting at 10 am at the King Street Metro, either to go from there to the Arlington march at 10:30, or to go right to DC for the rally.
And if you're a real early riser, you can join me in DC at the corner of 4th and Pennsylvania at 9 am, where I've been invited to speak to students from Virginia, DC, and Maryland. Come join us bright and early and then travel with me as I head back to Arlington to join Governor McAuliffe and many others marching across Memorial bridge back to DC.
Please join us in showing Congress and the Virginia General Assembly that we've had enough of this endless violence, and we demand action to stop it.

Then Back to Richmond for two April sessions
We're not done yet!
Since the Senate Republicans stood firm against Medicaid Expansion and failed to reach a budget agreement with the House of Delegates this session, we adjourned without a budget for the first time in four years. Governor Northam has called us back for a special session to consider the budget on April 11, and I'm looking forward to going back down and fighting to expand access to health care for all Virginians while saving more than $400 million to Virginia taxpayers.
I'm pleased to report Governor Northam's current budget proposal mirrors Governor McAuliffe's submitted budget: it cleanly expands Medicaid. I strongly support this budget, although I expect that some compromises may need to be made to get it passed. We made some difficult concessions to the House Republicans in February to get their support, and I'm prepared to do the same again to get a good result for the Commonwealth. It may take some time to finally reach a deal on this, but I remain firm in my commitment to vote against any budget that does not include the Medicaid Expansion.
And we have more work to do beyond the budget. April 18 will mark the reconvened session, when we come back to consider the Governor's vetoes and amendments to the bills we passed during session. I'm optimistic that the Governor will stand with us in supporting our priorities, and I look forward to joining with my Democratic colleagues to sustain vetoes of bad legislation and to pass much-needed amendments to improve bills that still need some work. Stay tuned, as April looks to be an unusually important month for us this year.

Volunteering with Meals on Wheels
This is a true labor of love. It's my third year doing it. Those of us who deliver the meals get as much out of it as those receiving them. We knock on their door and receive a big smile from folks, some of whom have no one but us to visit them.
Please consider volunteering when you have a free day. And thank you to David Colton, who volunteers day in and day out. If you want to help, email [email protected].
